Lake Superior Workshop Proceedings Available

Developing Restoration and Protection Priorities for Lake Superior (Appendix 3 in “A Blueprint for the Future: Towards a Great Lakes Restoration Strategy,”) is the final proceedings of the Lake Superior Restoration and Protection Workshop held in Duluth during the summer of 2004. It is available from the Great Lakes Commission's Web site www.glc.org/restwkshp/.

Minnesota Sea Grant staff compiled these proceedings, which focus on how a list of priorities set forth by the Council of Great Lakes Governors meshed with the restoration and protection of Lake Superior in the eyes of 100 workshop participants.

According to the proceedings, attendees thought that Lake Superior offers unique opportunities to protect natural systems and that education is essential for preserving the lake’s quality. The larger “Blueprint” document contains the proceedings from the eight workshops conducted around the Great Lakes for the Council of Great Lakes Governors.

For more information about Lake Superior’s restoration workshop, see the September 2004 issue of the Seiche.
