The Lake Game: For People Who Care About Lakes

By Barbara Liukkonen

This 15-page booklet is a group game for youth or adults that challenges participants to balance decisions related to water pollution, personal values, and economics. In the game, a bucket of water representing a lake gradually becomes polluted and depleted. Players assume roles ranging from tourist to industrialist to homeowner. The game is designed to increase awareness about how lakes are used. Players also learn that managing and protecting lakes requires difficult decisions and compromises.
