Minnesota Sea Grant conveys useful, interesting, and scientifically accurate information about Lake Superior, coastlines, and water resources to specific groups and the general public. Among other ways, our staff gets this job done by:

  • Working with educators on developing curricula
  • Engaging the media through news releases and interviews
  • Speaking at public, governmental, and professional gatherings
  • Conducting workshops that target particular issues and interests
  • Cultivating strong professional relationships by serving on boards and cooperating on projects
  • Developing written and multi-media products attract online interest
  • Producing and promoting publications and products that address aquatic issues

Superior Science News Radio Program
We teamed up with KUWS, to produce programs about Lake Superior science. "Superior Science News" airs on KUWS (91.3 FM) on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. every two weeks throughout the winter, 2007-2008.
A View From the Lake Boat Trips
Water quality specialists from the Minnesota Sea Grant and the University of Wisconsin Extension boarded the L.L. Smith, Jr. with citizens and the research vessel’s crew to discuss Lake Superior. The project’s success earned it national attention.
Ask a Scientist Speaker Series
Explore scientific topics with experts and friends in the relaxed atmosphere of a local coffee house.
Great Lakes Aquarium & UMD Partners in Education Program
Undergrads pursuing a degree in education at UMD can fulfill some of their volunteer requirement by apprenticing with the pros at the Great Lakes Aquarium and then teaching lessons about Lake Superior at area schools.
Habitattitude Campaign
This national campaign is designed to help aquarium and water garden owners become part of the solution in preventing the release of aquatic fish and plants.
Rip Current Education
Break the Grip of the Rip! Sea Grant offers Web information and works with the City of Duluth, other Sea Grant programs, and other agencies to alert people about the deadly currents that sometimes form off of Great Lakes beaches.

Minnesota and Illinois - Indiana Sea Grant offer two different traveling trunks, one that highlights exotic aquatics and another focused on zebra mussels.

This Internet curricula helps college and high school students understand and solve real-world environmental problems using advanced technology and real-time data from lakes and rivers nationwide.
