Readers Want to Know

I like the work that Minnesota Sea Grant does, how could I make a financial contribution?

(Yes, we do actually get this question from time to time.) We are pleased to announce that we can accept tax-deductible donations through the Minnesota Sea Grant Foundation. Giving money is one more way people can help ensure that the latest science about Lake Superior and Minnesota's aquatic resources happens and is heard.

Minnesota Sea Grant is fortunate to win praise and support from diverse audience spanning business owners, government officials (bipartisan even!), researchers, natural resource agency personnel, and the general public. People contribute to our efforts in a variety of ways, such as: sharing information from our publications and programs, attending our events, serving on Sea Grant advisory committees, partnering on projects, and participating in opportunities.

If, like Minnesota Sea Grant, you envision, "citizens using a science-based understanding of the environment to address issues concerning Lake Superior and Minnesota's aquatic resources and associated economies," consider contributing to the Minnesota Sea Grant Foundation.

While our vision is far-reaching, our day-to-day activities are focused through our mission "to facilitate interaction among the public and scientists to enhance the environment and communities along Lake Superior and Minnesota's inland waters by identifying information needs, fostering research, and communicating results."

To attain our vision and implement our mission, Minnesota Sea Grant receives financial support from both the University of Minnesota System and the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency. As you might guess, federal and state support for Sea Grant has lagged behind the demand for our services. Your contribution to Minnesota Sea Grant, whether financial, technical, physical, or other, assures that aquatic and Great Lakes science will remain vibrant in Minnesota.

Individuals can make contributions of any amount to the Minnesota Sea Grant Foundation through our Web site (www.seagrant.umn.edu/foundation/), through the mail, or in person. Donors can designate how their funds are used. For example, you may wish to have your donation support students through scholarships or help supplement research activities. If you have special concerns, you may wish to donate to a specific program like Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers.

Thank you for your support. Thank you for caring.
