Carl Richards, Minnesota Sea Grant Director, greets the public at a booth at Duluth’s Boat, Sports, and Travel Show last month. Over 1,500 people visited the booth during the four-day event, learning about exotic species in the Great Lakes and viewing the award-winning Stop Exotics, Clean Your Boat video. Of the publications people picked up, the most popular were fish and crayfish recipes, Lake Superior information, and exotic species identification cards.
“The Boat Show is a great way for the public to get in touch with the information we have to offer,” said Marie Zhuikov, Minnesota Sea Grant communications coordinator. “We’ve found that this show and the annual Minnesota state teacher’s convention are the events where we get the most ’bang for the buck’ in terms of numbers of people and meeting their information needs.”
