Three Inland Lakes Books Available

If you are interested in waterfront living, having a low impact on the shoreland environment, identifying aquatic plants, or learning what Minnesotans think about their lakes, have we got some publications for you!

Life on the Edge…Owning Waterfront Property, 109 pp., was produced by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources especially for shoreland property owners, or would-be-owners. The increasing demand for waterfront property is a noteworthy example of private living styles butting up against public rights. If you are interested in waterfront living and a lifestyle that has a low impact on the environment and your neighbors, this book is for you. Cost is $5.

Through the Looking Glass…A Field Guide to Aquatic Plants, 248 pp., was produced by the Wisconsin Lakes Partnership to increase people’s interest and awareness of aquatic plants and their relationship to a healthy lake environment. This easy-to-use field guide makes learning about the natural history of aquatic plants fun. While it focuses on plants found in Wisconsin waters, many are also found in waters across the United States and Canada. Some of the plants have global distribution. Cost is $17.

Summary Report on Public Perceptions of the Impacts, Use, and Future of Minnesota Lakes, contains results of a 1998 survey of people who use Minnesota lakes (for more information see “Why Love Lakes?” in the December 1998 issue of the Seiche). Sea Grant and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources conducted the survey to find out what people think about the condition of Minnesota lakes. Two versions are available: a summary (31 pp.), and a summary with data tables (89 pp.) Both versions are free.

All of these publications can be ordered by using our free on-line ordering form.
