Landscaping for a Natural Shoreline Videos
September 1998
by Sea Grant Staff
Two new videos are available from the University of Minnesota to help landowners restore or maintain a natural shoreline. The 17-minute video, The Living Shore, Best Management Practices for Shoreland Vegetation, shows how to landscape for a natural and beautiful shoreline. It explains the benefits of planting and maintaining buffer strips to protect water quality, reduce erosion, provide wildlife habitat, and improve aesthetics.
Standing Firm Against Erosion, Best Management Practices for Shoreland Stabilization, describes the causes of erosion and several stabilization techniques. This 18-minute video tells how to find the best solution, find an experienced contractor, and construct a rip-rap barrier.
Both videos are available for $15 (plus tax and shipping) and were produced by several county, state, and federal agencies. Order The Living Shore, Best Management Practices for Shoreland Vegetation, (VH-7129-NL) and Standing Firm Against Erosion, Best Management Practices for Shoreland Stabilization (VH-7130-NL) from the University of Minnesota Extension Distribution Center.
