November 29, 2018
6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Duluth Folk School
1917 W. Superior St.
Duluth, MN 55806

The event is free and open to the public.

Join us for the continuation of an ongoing community discussion focusing on educating, inspiring, and connecting Twin Ports people interested in encouraging humanity’s connection to nature in the next generation.

Join us at one of Duluth newest and most creative schools in the heart of Lincoln Park for a presentation, film and discussion about nature play spaces for children in the Twin Ports and how access could be improved. This event is a follow-up to community discussions at our November 2017 NaturePlay event.

Film

The evening will begin with a screening of the 30-minute film “School's Out” about a forest kindergarten in Switzerland.

Presentation

Following the film there will be a short presentation on the current state of equitable access and distribution of nature play spaces in the Twin Ports' area based on research by Minnesota Sea Grant Resiliency Specialist Thomas Beery and University of Minnesota Duluth Geospatial Analyst Zachary Varva. They documented the proximity of early-childcare sites to parks and other accessible public lands. Their results will help identify gaps, which will enable community members to better meet needs for nature-based programming. Their research is a result of discussions from the NaturePlay event in held in November of 2017.

Discussion

The evening will conclude with discussion about the film and presentation, community sharing of nature play-related news and events.
