Tom Beery, an assistant extension professor with Minnesota Sea Grant, has studied in the area for many years and is a specialist on the cultural landscape of Laponia.

Celebrate Sami National Day with an informative program about the historical Swedish province, or landscape, in the north of Sweden called Laponia, named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. The 3,600 square mile area contains four national parks, two nature reserves and is home to indigenous Sami people whose best-known means of livelihood is remi-nomadic reindeer herding.
