40th Anniversary of Earth Day
April 22, 2010
The 40th anniversary of Earth Day marks a time of challenge to our environment, with climate change presenting serious challenges and also opportunities to build a healthy, prosperous, clean-energy economy now and in the future.
Earth Day 2010 celebrates efforts toward sustainability and progress in such areas as climate policy, energy efficiency, renewable energy and green jobs. Earth Day galvanizes individuals, corporations and governments asking them to make a personal commitment to creating a green economy. More than 190 countries are taking action for Earth Day 2010.

The Global Days of Service will feature volunteerism by thousands of global participants, from April 1 –18, 2010. Projects in parks, beaches, schools and forests will focus on climate change solutions like tree planting, energy efficiency retrofits, water protection, urban gardens and forest restoration. Produced with the help of Earth Day Network, along with local community organizations and governments, the activities will address current challenges and will help cities and organizations streamline their energy needs, and "green up" their communities. These activities encourage active lifestyles and healthful living, while also connecting volunteers with the green solutions.
