ojibwemowin environmental education curriculum

by Deanne Himango

Methods

The traditional stories were gathered via interviews with Ojibwe elders and through research. All stories were gathered in the traditional Ojibwe customs during the appropriate times of the year and were hand recorded. Before each story was completed, an informal council of elders reviewed the story content for accuracy.

A pilot test of the curriculum was carried out at the Fond du Lac Reservation Ojibwe School in Minnesota targeting ninth and tenth grade students. In addition, an evaluation plan was developed and completed with revisions made to the curriculum based on the evaluation results.
